Moore Earrings! M11

Bead Class

No, this isn't a typo, I'm referring to Henry Moore, the 20th century American sculptor and his use of bold biomorphic shapes. In this class, however, we're going to scale them down into earring-sized works of art. We will do so by taming the "wild beast," AKA the jeweler's saw! The jeweler's saw is a fundamental jewelry-making tool. It's one of the first and most important tools found on every jeweler's bench. Gaining control of the saw is a basic skill necessary for creating beautiful jewelry. We will use it to create original earrings cut out of copper, brass and sterling silver sheet. This class is for beginners or for those wanting to brush up on their sawing skills.

Not Lost, But Found Necklace M13

Bead Class

Found objects...no, they were never "lost" they just didn't seem to have a purpose until now! I'm talking about all those odds and ends cluttering up your life but too valuable to toss out. Don't know what I mean? Then try looking at your junk drawer, tool box, tackle box, or the box of stuff you inherited from Aunt Sally. See what I mean, "found objects." That's what we are going to use to create a serious ONE of a kind necklace. We will use a variety of cold-connection techniques, sawing skills, and chemical and heat patinas to finish our necklace. The more "things" you bring to this class, the better off you will be. This is the one time when being a "bag lady" is a good thing.

Off the Cuff: Negative Shapes M14

Bead Class

When we use a cookie cutter to "cut out" shapes in rolled-out dough, we keep the positive shapes (i.e., Santa) and when there is no more room, we roll up the dough into a ball to start again. But wait! What about all those interesting "negative shapes" that were left? I know, they don't look like reindeer but they were interesting none the less. In this class we will focus on keeping and enhancing the "negatives shapes" to create one of a kind flat cuffs from textured copper sheets. This class is for beginners or for those wanting to brush up on their sawing skills.
