Summer 2008 Newsletter
Here's our newsletter about upcoming events and classes. In order to take classes, you must register. Monday, May 19th at 10:00am.
Classes this Summer
This term there are 64 classes. 13 are new! Star is offering the following classes this Summer:
Star’s Sunday Swap
Sunday, June 29th
Save that date for the second annual Bead Swap. The shop will be open from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m. There will be free gifts and an hourly raffle. Refreshments will be served AND you can swap your beads! Your “cast-offs” may be someone else’s treasures. Bring your beads to trade. Cat Corbett will be available to do a kinesiology workshop with beads! Look for more information in the shop.
What's New in the Shop?
The new Mexican sterling silver beads are in the shop. These beads are simple and beautiful; some are brushed silver.
Rising Silver Price
The price of silver has almost doubled in a year. Star has been buying clasps and chains made of metals other than silver and gold. Look for the new brass clasps that are being made in Israel and Bali.
Congratulations to:
Beth Eltinge for winning the Wood Lawn bead competition with her beautiful vase, covered with beads. And to Alison Lovitt Reinfeld who received “honorable mention” for one of her designs.
Employees who Design and Teach
Katie Taddeo, Rachel Stirling, Linda Lumbert, Julie Booth, Lisa Norris, and Beverlee Stafford work at the shop, teach classes and design and sell their jewelry. Julie has a position at the Torpedo Factory, where her hand-made art dolls are sold. The newest employee addition is Dianne Norris, who is a collector of vintage jewelry. Any one of our helpful staff can help you with selection and ideas on a weekday.
Materials for Classes
Besides the charges listed in this newsletter, most classes also require that the student purchase or bring supplies to the class. A confirmation/supply list is given at the time of registration. The supply needs are included on that sheet. Some classes may also have a supply or kit fee. See below.
Supply and Kit Fees
As you can see from the class listings, many classes have a supply or a kit fee. These fees are payable to the instructor on the day of the class. Most of our instructors are not able to take credit cards for these fees, so we ask that you use cash or checks for payment. Your cooperation is appreciated!
Tools for Classes
We encourage students to purchase or bring their own tools for classes. However, we do have basic tools to “loan” out to students for use in class. Please arrange for this in the shop prior to the start of the class.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel at least 3 days prior to the class, a merchandise coupon for the cost of the class minus $5.00 will be given. A cancellation without 3 days notice can’t be refunded.
*This newsletter of classes has been compiled and scheduled by Beverlee Stafford. If you would like to propose a class, please contact her at bjsarlington@aol.com.
