ARTIST HIGHLIGHT

Paulette Rosner Baron has been beading since 1994, and teaching bead weaving classes in the Washington, D.C. area since 1996. In addition to teaching around her home base, Paulette also teaches across the country, including the Bead and Button Show, bead societies and premiere bead stores.

Having earned her Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University, she became a Graphic Designer. But it was when she became involved with beads that she found true calling. Her need to be creative and to work with colors and design had finally found a home. She has become known for creating three dimensional sculptural pieces of art out of beads. Her pieces utilize different sizes and shapes of beads and are made using a wide assortment of off-loom bead weaving stitches.

Paulette is illustrator and co-author of Beading Across America: A Jewelry Inspirations from Coast to Coast, 2011, Kalmbach Publishing with Sherry Serafini and Amy Katz.

Paulette’s Pinwheel Garden Necklace appears on the title page of The Beader’s Color Palette by Margie Deeb. She has three projects, including on the cover flap, in Showcase 500 Beaded Jewelry by Lark Books. Paulette’s freeform sculptural brick stitch work is featured in Diane Fitzgerald’s book, “Beading With the Brick Stitch.” Two of her freeform sculptural peyote creatures were in the 2005-2006 traveling exhibition “The Beaded Figure.” Her Pinwheel Garden necklace won 2nd place in the 2005 Bead Dreams exhibition. This piece is also in the Dairy Barn traveling exhibit “Bead International 2006”. Paulette is one of the artists featured in the Japanese publication “The Best Collection of Beadweaving Stitches by 9 American Bead Artists” by Kumiko Mizuno Ito.

TRUNK SHOW STARTING SEPTEMBER 1ST!

Unicorne Beads are individually handcrafted in the USA by a network of highly skilled glassblowers. These beads are fashioned in a torch flame by a process called “lampworking”. Unlike most beads, which are made from ordinary or “soft” glass, Unicorne Beads are created from “hard” or borosilicate glass. Only the finest imported glass from Europe and the United States is used. Many of the colored glass is custom mixed. Borosilicate glass is worked at much higher temperatures than ordinary glass and then kiln annealed at over 1000 degrees which makes for a stronger more durable product. The higher temperatures are also responsible for the rich natural colors characteristic of Unicorne borosilicate glass beads.
